Tourists visiting the Dominican Republic can stay there for up to 30 days without a visa, as long as they acquire a Tourist Card. This card is a US$10.00 fee that allows entry into the country for tourism purposes and is usually included in the airline ticket cost.
If a visitor wishes to stay longer than 30 days, they must pay an additional fee for overstay when leaving the country. The amounts vary depending on the length of stay exceeded. For example, for a stay of 30 to 90 additional days, the fee is RD$3,500.00, while for stays of 9 to 12 months, the amount is RD$7,000.00.
It is important to note that some tourists may be exempt from the Tourist Card, such as Dominican residents, visa holders, and naturalized citizens, as well as foreigners from countries with bilateral agreements that contemplate such exemption.
Additionally, upon leaving the country, a Departure Tax of US$20.00 must be paid, which is usually included in the price of the airline ticket.
For stays longer than 60 days, it is advisable to consult with the General Directorate of Immigration or the nearest Dominican embassy for information on possible extensions or additional requirements.
